I MISS YOU

Summary: For Hatter. Jeff and Sand are not exactly on good terms with each other and he can't take another day without her and decides to win her back. Hope you enjoy Zay. Song is I Miss You by Incubus.

I hope this is okay. Hard to work with the songs, but oh well, hope you like, but it actually came out better than I thought it would using this one.

Jeff sat there, at his kitchen bench, his hand resting just over the phone. For about twenty minutes, he'd been sitting there contemplating whether or not to actually go through with what he had originally planned on doing. God, he had never felt so stupid before in his entire life. She was only a phone call away but he knew he'd never get to talk to her by using his mobile. Thankfully most home numbers turned up private.

Groaning, he ran his hand through his hair, breathing out a large puff of hot air as he shifted his guitar in his lap. Jeff had always prided himself on being right, on being the man of the house and this time, it was that attitude that had cost him Sandy.

Sure, Jeff knew when to curb his temper but he and Sand both had different opinions on how the song should be sung. They were both artists, they both had slightly different tastes and thats what sometimes made them argue.

But never like last week.

Had it been that long since he'd seen her? Yeah. She hadn't exactly left as most of her stuff was here, but she wasn't exactly here either. He hated not having her round either. It was too quiet. It was too lonesome. Hell, he was strong enough to admit that he had been a moron and that he missed Sand.

With what felt like a renewed gauge of courage at that thought Jeff picked up the phone and dialled her number before putting it between his ear and shoulder. It rang a few times before it got picked up. "Hello."

Jeff momentarily forgot what he was going to do when he heard her say hello. He needed to keep her on the line. "Don't hang up, please," he said softly.

"Ah- Je- Jeff."

"Sand, don't hang up alright. I- I wanted to say I'm sorry," he murmured down the line. He heard the annoyed sigh from her and asked her just to come back home.

"I am home Jeff."

"It was just a little fight, we can do it anything you want, alright."

"Its not the point, Jeff. Alright," she replied. "We don't need to be so close. We can't handle being so close all the time. We do need sometime apart."

"But I need you here," he told. His leg was bouncing lightly and he lowered his eyes. "Then, would you just give me ten minutes."

He could here her moving around a little bit before she said he had five minutes and that was all. A large smile came to his face.

Sand listened to him move slightly and then she heard him strum his guitar. She folded her arms across her chest as she glanced down at the telephone. She'd only put it on loudspeaker, so she could finish her sandwich. Now as she listened, she wondered what he was up to. It made her nervous. Jeff was not a man to easily ignore, even on the phone it was hard to hang up on him. She missed him so much, but she refused to give in easily to him. It just wouldn't be right.

"Jeff what are-"

"To see you when I wake up
is a gift I didn't think could be real.
To know that you feel the same as I do
is a three-fold, utopian dream.
You do something to me that I can't explain.
So would I be out of line if I said,
I miss you.
I see your picture, I smell your skin on the empty pillow next to mine.
You have only been gone ten days, but already I'm wasting away.
I know I'll see you again
whether far or soon.
But I need you to know that I care
and I miss you."

She was rooted to the spot as he'd sung and now felt tears coming to her eyes. God, why was he so endearing and emotional? It made her feel sick that she had left, but it was constricting. They couldn't always be round each other, even for a new couple, people could not live together and not feel like they needed some air every once in a while.

"Jeff," she whispered, laying her head down near the speaker.

"Come home Sand. Please."

Jeff had been sitting out the back with his headphones in, a smoke in hand and a can of beer. He breathed out heavily as he watched the sun rising. It'd been two days since he'd called Sand and he didn't know what to do. She had never even given him an answer merely hung up after a few seconds of silence. Due to having the headphones in, Jeff didn't hear the front door open. Or the back door. He jumped to his feet when a hand touched his shoulder. Spinning around, and forgetting all about his split beer, Jeff picked Sand up into a tight hug. She squeaked slightly from the action and he smiled.

"How'd you know it'd be me?" she inquired when he pulled back slightly.

"Cause I know you couldn't resist my singing," he replied playfully. "Was I right?"

Sand just smiled slightly. "I missed you too."
